serving our community
What we do
MARIPOSA Advocacy and Legal Services Inc. works with immigrant working families on the Central Coast and trains the next generation of legal experts from within those same communities. Our work runs on three tracks: helping families prepare and advocate for themselves, building accessible legal services, and developing young people into the professionals who will sustain this work for years to come.
Every part of what we do is connected. The youth we train serve the families who need legal help. The families we support become part of a community that advocates for itself. That's the model, and it's been built from the ground up on the Central Coast.
advocacy
If immigration enforcement affects your family, what you've prepared in advance will make a real difference. MARIPOSA works with Central Coast families to get ready before there's a crisis: gathering documents, making a safety plan for your children, and connecting with local resources. The program is free, confidential, and we come to you.
Legal Services
There have never been enough immigration attorneys on the Central Coast to meet the need. MARIPOSA is building a local answer through the DOJ's Recognition and Accreditation Program, which authorizes trained non-attorneys to practice immigration law through recognized nonprofits. Real legal help, provided by people from this community, at a cost working families can manage.
professionalism
Youth Right to Rise trains young people from the Central Coast to become immigration advocates and legal service providers for the families they grew up alongside. Participants learn through direct work with real cases. Many are bilingual, grew up in mixed-status families, and already understand what's at stake. We give them the training and credentials to act on it.
